Molasses tired
I heave my eyelids open,
drag heavy legs
towards the pulsing day
commitments flicker, taunt
at a tunnel's distant end
luring me forward
though I'd rather sleep 'till May
I struggle to focus outward
when every cell in my body
draws inward to make
you, a future
swaddled in my flesh
