POETRY

Gravity
by C. Delia Scarpitti

I cannot get past
my body
These days, it is everything,
and nothing.
My thoughts are pregnant,
my tongue thick,
my hands with their curiously long nails
are not a part of me.
I am stretched.
I am stilted.
My words do not stir
like the industrious stranger
inside of me.
At night
I watch my accomplice sleep—
His half moon eyes
and girlish mouth
closed up against me
in his solitary dreaming.

C. Delia Scarpitti is a writer, educator, book reviewer, and mama of three whose work has appeared in a variety of publications including: Mothering Magazine, the We'Moon anthology: Love, SageWoman Magazine, Literary Mama Magazine, Mom Writer's Literary Magazine, and Natural Family Magazine. She lives with her family in a little white house with a tree swing in the front yard, where she works on her novel, dreams about poetry, and runs her blog Left-Handed Trees and Other Lies: Writing from the Roots.
