Change Is Good

Even though I've been mostly moping around my house today, wanting out of my Friday head and away from this house with no good food, lots of "Mommy, play with meeeee!" and too much work to be had, something bright and orange grabbed my attention. I kept speeding by the front window and feeling its presence, but I just thought it was a big old moving truck or some other worldly nuisance. But finally, I stopped long enough to find out different.
Autumn has arrived so Clyde and I went out for a few minutes to enjoy it. Our little maple tree is only as old as Clyde (almost three) and is no more than seven feet tall, but man, it has something to say today. When I handed Clyde one of the fallen bright orange leaves, he said, "We have to put it back," and tried pushing it back into the tree. "No," I said. "It's fall. The leaves fall off now."
That change thing. It catches all of us by surprise, but it sure felt good to take that long, graceful look.
