Back to School
posted by Amy
To my kids' dismay, two weeks from today is their first day of school. Since I'm a teacher, back to school for our kids also means back to work for me.
This week, I've been digging up those work clothes I packed away last May and trying to muster up some enthusiasm for packing lunches. (How I succeeded: I decided that a second-grader and a fourth-grader are TOTALLY old enough to pack their own lunches. I'll get back to you on how that works out. If it goes well, I'm moving on to having them fill out those endless school forms themselves. Is teaching kids to forge my signature really a bad thing?)
Links that are making it easier for me to shift into school mode include:
This interview with Sandra Tsing Loh about motherhood and public schools and advocacy.
Emily Bazelon on recess. (What's that you say? I link to everything she writes? Okay, I totally have a crush on her.)
This poem. My kids like it, too.
