Finally, Some R-E-S-P-E-C-T for Gay Parents
posted by Sheri

Princeton University and The Brookings Institution recently released a journal titled "Marriage and Child Wellbeing" that confirms what many of us bright stars already knew: kids raised by gay parents are A-OK (well, as A-OK as any other child raised by parents, that is). Finally, someone with a PhD is putting the evidence behind this debate in black and white:

  • "lesbian mothers, and gay fathers (about whom less is known), are much like other parents."
  • "there is no evidence that children of lesbian and gay parents are confused about their gender identity, either in childhood or adulthood, or that they are more likely to be homosexual."
  • "in general, children raised in same-sex environments show no differences in cognitive abilities, behavior, general emotional development, or such specific areas of emotional development as self-esteem, depression, or anxiety."
  • "The evidence is mixed, however, on whether the children have heightened difficulty with peers, with more studies finding no particular problems."
  • Don't miss these other interesting bits:
