Chaos Theory for Mamas
posted by Amy
It's the first day of summer for my boys, so Henry is sleeping in. Josie has two more weeks of preschool left. Midnight is fast approaching for this teacher/mama, who will turn back in a full-time, at-home mom of three kids on June 30 and stay that way until after Labor Day, when the kids and I will start the new school year. My home office is cluttered with books to read for mamazine.com, for the courses I'll teach next fall, for fun (I schedule that in between 3-4 a.m., when I'm awake worrying anyway), and the assorted detritus of a semester of college teaching and three kids' school years. In other words, it's chaos in here, and while I can manage to ignore it during the academic year, I can't any longer.
Before I set to work clearing a path to my desk, I click on my weekly email from MOMbo.org, figuring I'll listen to the podcast while I sort papers and books. And once again, Nanci's choice makes my day: it's an essay about chaos. Listen. It'll make your day, too.
