If you've found yourself gaping, shocked, over some member of the Bush family's comments over the past two weeks (and perhaps, like some of us here at mamazine.com, using words you'll regret having uttered an hour later when your daughter mutters something profane while watching Dora the Explorer), you'll appreciate this post at This Is Not Over.

Meanwhile, Harper's has an essay by Rebecca Solnit which addresses questions we've been asking each other in my house, such as, "Why the heck would anyone care if their minimart got cleaned out when people are dying?" The answer seems to be that protecting property rates higher than protecting people, at least in some people's minds.
