It's Never Too Late, You Passionate Mamas

I recently read a great article in the September 2005 issue of Real Simple called "It's Never Too Late." The article covers the lives of five women, age 40 and up, who figured out that passion doesn't have an age limit. Now there's some good advice for all those creative-thinking Mamas, Grandmamas, and Great Aunties out there. At mamazine.com, we agree! In fact, pursuing your passion doesn't have to be limited by age or by the bittersweet demands of motherhood either. Sure, it may be harder to fit things in, but if you want something, get creative and go get it!

Most inspiring to me was 84-year old Gertrude Friedman who attended college at age forty when her two children entered school and wrote the first draft of a novel called Tushika, which is a story inspired by one of her favorite Aunties. Thirty years later, Gertrude self-published the book and is still writing new creative works.

When asked if she had any advice for women pursuing passions later in life, Gertrude said, "I often got up in the middle of the night to write when inspired by a thought. One finds time to pursue a passion." Words to live by...
